At Shadforth Cottage Long Day Care and Preschool our philosophy to education is to provide an environment where children can grow, learn, discover and create. Each child is at a different place on the learning continuum and we treat every child as a unique individual.

We have embraced the Early Years Learning Framework as the foundation for documenting and assessing children’s learning experiences. The Early Years Learning Framework is Australia’s first Framework for early childhood and is underpinned by the concept of early childhood learning as ‘Belonging, Being and Becoming’. The framework also sets out five learning outcomes for children which are:

Children have a strong sense of identity

Children are connected with and contribute to their world

Children have a strong sense of well being

Children are confident and involved learners

Children are effective communicators

Each of our cottages have a weekly education program which is based on the children’s interests and current levels of skill. Experiences and activities are planned and documented within the weekly program and linked to the Early Years Learning Framework. It is our aim to maintain a balance between teacher-directed experiences and child-initiated learning by providing a stimulating and engaging learning environment for the children.

Shadforth Cottage Preschool has a school readiness program that has been developed using both the Early Years Learning Framework and NSW Kindergarten curriculum, creating a strong link between the early learning environment and formal schooling.
